Programs & initiatives
Four permanent programmes, run year-round by trained volunteers and coordinated from our office on Strada Nicolae Titulescu.
Program 01
Elderly Companion & Care
Our founding programme pairs a trained volunteer with an isolated older person for a weekly visit of at least one hour. The visit is the point: conversation, a shared coffee, a walk to the market, help with reading a letter from the pension office.
Practical assistance is built around the relationship — collecting prescriptions from the pharmacy, weekly grocery runs, accompaniment to medical appointments in Sighișoara or Târgu Mureș, small household repairs, and help navigating pension and social benefit paperwork.
Where we identify medical or social risk, we refer to the county social assistance service and follow the case until support is in place. We do not close a case when a referral is made.
- 412 beneficiaries in 2025
- Weekly visits, 52 weeks a year
- 26-month average pairing duration
- Emergency phone line answered by a coordinator

Program 02
Family Assistance & Humanitarian Aid
Monthly food parcels for low-income households, single-parent families and families caring for a member with a disability. Each standard parcel covers basic staples for approximately two weeks for a family of four and is adapted for dietary and medical needs.
Alongside food, we distribute hygiene kits, school supplies in September, firewood and thermal blankets before winter, and emergency supplies after floods, fires or evictions — situations in which we can mobilise within 24 hours.
Households are referred by schools, family doctors, parishes and the City Hall social service, and are reassessed every six months so that assistance follows real need rather than habit.
- 3,180 parcels delivered in 2025
- 74 households in the winter fuel drive
- 24-hour emergency mobilisation
- Six-month reassessment cycle

Program 03
Youth & Educational Workshops
Our after-school room offers free homework support, literacy and numeracy catch-up, and a hot meal to children at risk of dropping out — many of them from Roma families in the Cornești and Viilor districts.
Beyond homework, weekly workshops build social and life skills: public speaking, budgeting, digital safety, CV writing and mock interviews for older teenagers. Volunteer mentors accompany each young person over a full school year.
We work directly with class teachers and school counsellors, and we track attendance and grade progression with parental consent so that we can prove the programme works — or change it when it does not.
- 96 young people enrolled in 2025
- Two study groups, five afternoons a week
- Hot meal at every session
- Full-school-year mentor commitment

Program 04
Community Integration & Cultural Inclusion
Isolation is not only material. Our community programme creates the ordinary occasions in which a town becomes a community again: the “Masa Lungă” long-table lunch, Saxon and Romanian heritage afternoons, intergenerational craft workshops, and neighbourhood clean-up days.
Events are deliberately multilingual — Romanian, Hungarian, German and Romani are all spoken at our tables — and deliberately mixed in age, so that a fourteen-year-old and an eighty-year-old end up peeling the same potatoes.
We also host free information sessions on pensions, social benefits, digital public services and domestic-violence support, delivered with partner institutions.
- 37 events hosted in 2025
- 260 participants at the annual community lunch
- Four working languages at our events
- Free and open to all residents

How to request support
Anyone can refer themselves, a family member or a neighbour. Call our coordinator on +40 770 487 428, write to elbert-floyd3ick@gmx.com, or come to the office on Strada Nicolae Titulescu 8 on a weekday morning. A coordinator will arrange a home assessment visit, usually within seven days. Support is free of charge and offered without discrimination of any kind.
